Goalparia lokageet

Goalparia lokageet is a folk music of Assam. It carries the rich musical tradition of undivided Goalpara district.Sung to traditional tune, it usually relates the soul to mystic nature.
This kind of music was primary themed on love and romance. But it has many subdivisions.
Basically divided into four variants: Bhawaiya, Chatka, Moishalli and Maut songs.

Bhawaiya
These are songs of love and longing, with the name rooted in the Sanskrit word bhava.[1] They are steeped in seriousness,
and the tunes have a plaintive air to them.[2] Love in bhawaiya songs is not tender and romantic; instead the songs express a longing for a husband or a lover.

Chatka
The chatka songs, in contrast to bhawaiya, are themed not solely on love, and does not have the plaintive seriousness.
Instead, they are direct and often flippantly casual. They often depict a special dewar-bhauji relationship, extra-marital relationships and situations.

Maut
The maut songs are based on the stories of elephant capturing.

Moshali
The term "mohis" means "buffalo".  Moishali means "connected with buffalo".  Therefore moishali songs refer to themes that refer to buffalo.
